The San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted 8-2 to expand a late-night business curfew from the Tenderloin into parts of South of Market. The ordinance requires certain businesses, including corner stores and smoke shops, to close between midnight and 5 a.m. The curfew was originally enacted in the Tenderloin in mid-2024 as part of a public safety effort. Supporters cited an academic study reporting declines in drug-related crime and no evidence of displacement. Researchers and cited sociologists cautioned the study is preliminary and not conclusive, and some supervisors opposed the expansion.
