San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie acknowledges some success in cleaning up drug users and homeless individuals along 6th Street, but issues persist as these individuals relocate. In the Mission District, residents share concerns over a rise in visible drug activity. Joshua, a drug user, expresses reluctance to seek help, complicating outreach efforts. The situation is causing distress for families nearby, such as Andres Wiken's, who recorded troubling interactions between his young child and drug users. Although the mayor visited the area and recognized the problem, he refrains from making definitive promises about solutions.
"I don't know, I don't think I want to stop using drugs. That's the problem," he told us.
"It's not fair to mix these drug addicts who refuse service in with everyone else who is paying a ton of money to live here," said Andres Wiken.
