Zeidan said that he was woken up by a phone call around 11:30 p.m. on Monday. An employee at Delirium, the bar next door, reportedly saw KitKat get hit by a Waymo. Zeidan and his wife came at once. KitKat was rushed to an emergency vet but did not survive."
"Jeff Klein told Mission Local that he sawaWaymo turn in front of his car while driving late on Monday night. "Some folks on the sidewalk started yelling and grabbed the cat right out from under where the Waymo swerved from," he wrote in an email to the outlet. A 311 complaint from early Tuesday morning alleged that a Waymo hit a liquor store's cat on 16th Street."
KitKat, a tabby cat who served as mascot and pet of Randa's Market for six years, was allegedly struck and killed by a Waymo on 16th Street. The cat often sat in a cardboard box near the store's drink fridge and was beloved by customers. An employee at the neighboring bar saw the incident late Monday night. KitKat was rushed to an emergency vet but did not survive. Witnesses described a Waymo turning in front of other cars and people pulling the cat from the sidewalk. A 311 complaint accused the Waymo of hitting the cat at high speed and failing to stop. Customers and neighbors have created a growing sidewalk memorial with flowers and candles.
