A young mountain lion appeared in Pacific Heights, San Francisco, and was seen near Octavia Street and Pacific Avenue. Residents captured video and photos, and the SF Department of Emergency Management sent a 9:19 pm citywide alert advising people to slowly back away and not run if they encountered the animal. Sightings were also reported near Lafayette Park and at Sacramento and Gough streets. Animal Care & Control described the cat as young, scared, and hiding, and suggested it may be lost and traveling south. A biologist from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife was summoned to tranquilize and relocate the animal. It is the first recorded San Francisco sighting since 2021.
