San Francisco's Civic Center BART station closes due to fire and heavy smoke
"San Francisco's Civic Center BART station was evacuated and closed on Tuesday because of an equipment problem and subsequent fire, officials said. A spokesperson for the transit agency said that a blown insulator caused a significant amount of smoke inside the station. The San Francisco Fire Department said an electrical fire on the third rail happened at approximately 11:30 a.m. As of 12:11 p.m., the fire had been extinguished with a dry chemical extinguisher."
"Video footage posted on the Citizen app shows clouds of smoke blowing from the station and onto Market Street. The fire department confirmed on its social media page that the smoke was related to a fire at the BART station. No one was injured in the reported fire, and the station closed "as a caution," the BART spokesperson said. Fire crews and the San Francisco Police Department are on the scene, the spokesperson said."
