San Francisco proposes major water, sewer rate increases by summer to upgrade infrastructure
""They've definitely increased. And it's interesting because we've tried really hard to reduce our consumption. But the rates still keep going up.""
""I'm fortunate that we could pay it. So many couldn't. And so I think that there's got to be some other options.""
""I'm dumbfounded. That's that's a huge number to be I know it's going to be passed on.""
The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission proposes a 23% increase in combined water and sewer bills by next July. The first increase, starting July 1, 2026, would raise water rates by 7% and sewer rates by 15%. A second increase on July 1, 2027, would further raise water rates by 7% and sewer rates by 14.5%. The average household bill is expected to rise from $171 to $189 in 2026 and $212 in 2027, raising concerns among residents about affordability.
