San Francisco dog wags tail and kisses rescuers after being stuck on cliffside
"He was happy. He knew he got rescued. He was wagging his tail. He was giving everyone kisses,"
"You may think that it's a little berm or a hill, but it is a significant drop,"
"One of the best ways to not get hurt on these cliffs and our beautiful seaside parts of San Francisco is to stay on the marked paths,"
A brown-and-white dog playing with another dog at Fort Funston slipped on vegetation, lost traction and fell over a steep bluff. The animal found temporary refuge on a narrow sandy ledge about 40 feet below the top and clung there for more than 20 minutes. A nearby police drone operator captured an aerial view and relayed the dog's location to firefighters. One rescuer rappelled down the bluff, attached a harness to the approximately 40-pound dog, and held it while both were pulled up to safety. Rescuers reunited the dog with its owner. Officials advised staying on marked paths, keeping dogs leashed and children close to prevent dangerous falls.
