San Francisco Bay Area comes to a standstill as computer error shuts down entire BART train system
Briefly

The Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) experienced a major systemwide shutdown early Friday morning because of a computer networking problem affecting train control. The shutdown, announced at 4:24 a.m., resulted in the closure of all 50 stations and required technicians to investigate the issue. Although train services resumed later, delays were anticipated. This disruption severely affected tens of thousands of commuters, causing significant congestion on local freeways, while alternative services were made available by local transportation agencies.
The incident left tens of thousands of commuters looking for new ways to get to work, with many reportedly clogging the Bay Area's freeways.
BART communication officer Cheryl Stalter stated, 'We have a computer networking problem that is systemwide... it is affecting all operations, so we cannot put trains into service.'
