Officials rescue 9 from sinking boat in San Francisco Bay
Briefly

On Saturday, nine individuals were rescued from a sailboat sinking in San Francisco Bay. At approximately 2 p.m., the San Francisco Fire Department was alerted to the emergency. A coordinated effort with the U.S. Coast Guard resulted in the rescue of eight passengers, all of whom were wearing life jackets and reported uninjured. Notably, the boat's captain chose to remain with the vessel until a tow rescue was executed. The sailboat, owned by Sea Scout Ship Viking, is a training vessel for high school girls; meanwhile, the crew was competing in a regatta.
The captain decided to stay with the boat, refusing to leave despite the urging of first responders. "He wouldn't leave until a tow vessel arrived," Lt. Elias explained.
All of our youth members were at California State University Maritime, spending Memorial Day Weekend competing in a Sea Scout Regatta," the Sea Scouts said in a statement to NBC Bay Area.
