Ocean Beach goes full crop circle at this massive sand art gathering
"The vantage point from the Cliff House is typically pretty banal, showing endless volleyball nets and some fog. But the vibe last Saturday was crop circle. A mass of people congregated on the beach with rakes in hand, creating some of the best and most organized sand art I've ever seen. It looked like TikTok-famous 2024 aliens had ditched the cornfields in 2025 to gentrify Ocean Beach - upgrading the coarse, unkempt sand with sprawling geometric patterns."
"As I walked down to the beach I was greeted by a 10-year-old with the presence of an established 40-somethings man - a level of maturity that I have yet to see in the tech bro culture that runs this city. "Can I help you, are you here for the event?" asked KaviAmador. I told the young usher that I was looking for the person in charge and he pointed to his father, Andrés Amador."
A mass of people gathered at Ocean Beach to create highly organized, temporary sand art featuring sprawling geometric patterns such as spirals, peace signs, and sunrays anchored by a central "Be Kind" message. Participants used rakes to weave large designs across coarse beach sand, and beachgoers navigated through the works carefully despite inevitable disruption. A young volunteer, Kavi Amador, greeted visitors and directed inquiries to his father, Andrés Amador, who shrugged off concerns about impermanence. Amador's background includes environmental science, a Peace Corps stint in Ecuador, time in IT, and deep involvement with Burning Man and geometric land art.
