Ramirez joined the sheriff's department in 1998 and served as an administration and programs division commander before becoming a chief deputy in January 2024. In May 2020 Ramirez was filmed pushing a protester at a Black Lives Matter demonstration and a criminal investigation followed in July 2020; Ramirez was cleared of wrongdoing. Ramirez previously worked in the county jail, on community programs and with the investigative services unit. Miyamoto's former chief of staff, Richard Jue, faced misdemeanor charges and is no longer on the department payroll.
