Modern take on ancient fireworks to highlight San Francisco Lunar New Year celebration with drones
"We work really closely with our clients to figure out the story they want to show in the sky for the all the viewers of the parade. And we turn that into a show into drone formations which fly for 8 minutes and it's just a back and forth collaboration so we get across the story they want to tell."
"2026 is the year of the horse, you'll see additional imagery, which is important for the Chinese culture, likely to see a dragon, maybe drums and a preview of next year's animal as well."
The San Francisco Chinese New Year Parade is introducing a modern innovation by replacing traditional fireworks with a massive drone display. Pixis Drones is coordinating with the Chinese Chamber of Commerce to create an eight-minute show featuring 500 coordinated drones that will illuminate the sky over the waterfront. The drone formations will tell a story celebrating 2026, the Year of the Horse, and will include culturally significant imagery such as dragons and drums, along with a preview of the following year's zodiac animal. This marks the first time the parade has used drone technology instead of fireworks, offering a unique visual experience for the thousands of attendees.
