The young adult lion was first caught on video Monday night near the park, according to San Francisco Animal Care and Control. Early Tuesday morning, an alert was sent to San Francisco residents reporting the animal had been located and that animal control employees were on scene."

A young adult mountain lion was first recorded on video late Monday night near Lafayette Park and was located the following morning in Pacific Heights. San Francisco Animal Care and Control confirmed the location and alerted residents that animal control staff were on scene near Octavia and California streets, by the Atherton House. Social media users reported earlier sightings in Lafayette Park and nearby streets; one resident described the animal as "HUGE" and estimated its weight at over 100 pounds. Officials urged the public not to approach the animal, to back away slowly if encountered, avoid running, and to call San Francisco Animal Care and Control at 415-554-9400.
