Longest closure in Highway 1 history to continue through summer
Briefly

Residents and businesses in Big Sur are facing prolonged closures of Highway 1 due to significant repairs at Regent's Slide, expected to last until summer 2025. The highway has been closed since February 2024, after major landslides. While access to towns further north remains open for travelers, locals express concern over the impact of these closures on the region's tourist activities during peak summer months. Caltrans assures regular updates on repair progress, but uncertainties about travel impacts linger as the closure continues to affect accessibility.
Repairs to Regent's Slide are now expected to keep Highway 1 in this area closed through summer 2025... We can not predict how this will impact travel.
Visitors can still access the coastal towns on the northern part of SLO county for summer activity via Highway 1... A 6.8 mile segment remains closed, we are working seven days a week to open the roadway.
