"For five years running, something dazzling has been happening in downtown San Francisco. Each December, buildings shed their staid facades and become canvases for luminous art: Flowers unfurl across brick walls, architectural features pulse with color and entire towering structures seem to breathe with life to (at times) ribcage-rattling soundtracks. As darkness deepens, crowds gather on sidewalks and plazas, transfixed by the spectacle."
"Let's Glow launched Friday night with a countdown at Harry Bridges Plaza, next to the city's great big naked statue, R-Evolution, where city officials and sponsors gathered to kick off the event. Mayor Daniel Lurie spoke in front of an eager crowd of thousands that spilled out of the plaza, and noted that "Let's glow" was very close to his slogan - which he dutifully delivered right before pulling the big switch and revealing the projections."
For five years, downtown San Francisco buildings become large-scale projection canvases each December, with flowers, color and immersive soundtracks converting facades into luminous artworks. Let's Glow operates as a free open-air gallery organized by the Downtown SF Partnership and runs nightly Dec. 5 through Dec. 14. The festival expanded to eight landmark locations this year, including the Transamerica Pyramid Center. The kickoff featured a countdown at Harry Bridges Plaza where Mayor Daniel Lurie flipped the switch for a crowd of thousands. Nineteen custom pieces by international and local artists appear, including Jacob Stephens's "Gingerbread Mania" and Emmett Feldman's "Blooming Oasis."
