Mayor Daniel Lurie of San Francisco marks six months in office, focusing on security and homelessness solutions. He aims to create 1,500 shelter beds, having completed 400 so far, with plans for 1,000 more by year-end. Lurie emphasizes the need for targeted assistance for individuals in need. Additionally, he introduced The Family Zoning Plan to facilitate affordable housing development, especially after recent CEQA reforms. The mayor acknowledges that while changes may not show immediate results, progress is ongoing.
As of Tuesday, he said 400 shelter beds have been made for the unhoused, so far, and 1,000 beds are expected by the end of the year.
We have this transitional facility where people can come in for 24 hours, get assessed, get the right kind of care, and then pass off to a facility that is appropriate.
We have to make it easier to build housing...we want to make sure that there is more housing here in San Francisco that is affordable for families.
I don't think you're going to see immediate impacts today, but it will take time for the changes to manifest.
