Transportation planners are preparing for overnight closures of Highway 1 near Capitola to facilitate the reconstruction of the Capitola Avenue bridge. Crews will begin a series of closures that will last approximately one week. These closures will allow for the establishment of falsework for the new bridge, which will feature enhanced vertical clearance and width to support bicycle lanes and better sidewalks. The project is part of a broader initiative to improve transportation in the region and includes scheduled detours for motorists during the closures.
Crews will implement a series of overnight closures beginning Sunday and lasting for about a week between the Bay Avenue/Porter Street and State Park Drive interchanges.
The new bridge will feature greater vertical clearance and increased width to accommodate bicycle lanes as well as improved sidewalks.
