Halloween event held at San Francisco's new Sunset Dunes Park for 1st time
"We come every year. We have family that live in the Sunset. And it's just great to see the costumes. San Francisco does Halloween right."
"You know, it's going to be what it's going to be. And I support it either way. I do enjoy the open space. It's fun. But again, traffic gets congested."
"I'm not going to share my thoughts on having a park. We are happy to be here today and surely glad it's open to everyone on the weekends to enjoy."
"It's so fun for the kids. This is our third year, I think."
Sunset Dunes Park hosted the Great Hauntway Halloween event with trick-or-treaters attending despite wind and rain. The park occupies a portion of the former Great Highway and is one of the city's newest, most controversial parks. Voters passed Proposition K last year to close part of the Great Highway and create the park. The closure triggered a recall effort against Supervisor Joel Engardio, who supported the park and was ousted. Some residents support the park and open space, while others push to reopen the highway citing commuter inconvenience and traffic congestion. Many residents expressed hope for compromise.
