"going on a national tour to visit stores and communities he hasn't had a chance to appear in before."
"It's heartbreaking. I have kids of my own. The one thing they look forward to is Santa. The fact they're not going to have that, it's not tradition at all. Christmas is all about traditions and memories. Santa brings everyone together."
"We would take her to see Santa, the same Santa, for a good dozen years,"
Macy's Union Square will not host Santa this year because Santa will be going on a national tour to visit stores and communities he has not appeared in before. Union Square will still feature the SF SPCA Holiday Windows and Macy's Great Tree presented by Ripple. Longstanding visitors expressed disappointment and sadness that a cherished holiday tradition will be absent, with parents saying children look forward to seeing Santa each year. One parent recalled bringing her daughter to see the same Santa for more than a decade. A performer known as 'Spun Santa' will continue spinning around Union Square during the holidays.
