Floats for San Francisco Chinese New Year Parade get finishing touches
"So Year of the Horse, it's energy, it's passion, it's momentum so a lot of things that we're really hoping to embody in the new year. We're in the home stretch. We've got a couple of days left and we've got a nice little team that's cranking out all the finishing work that needs to go into it."
"It's one of the few parades that actually happens at night still. So we got to make sure all the lighting is in check, and people are safe on the float. It's all in the details, just for it to walk by you for 10 seconds."
"It's exciting. I look forward to coming every year and just creating and making things shine and sparkle."
Crews at Pier 19 completed final touches on floats for San Francisco's Chinese New Year Festival and Parade scheduled for Saturday. The Year of the Fire Horse theme inspired designs emphasizing energy, passion, and momentum. The Parade Guys, a San Francisco-based company, spent three months constructing the floats with designs beginning in November. Workers including Derrick Shavers and Bon focused on detailed finishing work such as sanding wood for cherry blossom trees and painting mountains. Special attention was given to lighting and safety since the parade occurs at night. The parade will be broadcast on ABC7 Eyewitness News starting at 5 p.m.
