Final Ride: Muni's Breda Trains Take Their Last Trip
"After nearly 30 years of service and millions of rides, San Francisco's iconic Breda light rail trains are heading into retirement, and you're invited to hop aboard for one final farewell. These chunky silver and red trains have been rolling through the city since 1996, hauling Giants fans to the ballpark, students to class, and locals to work, the beach, and beyond. Now, as the sleeker, faster Siemens LRV4 fleet takes over, Muni is sending the Bredas off in style."
"After your ride, raise a glass to three decades of Muni memories at Churchill (198 Church St.) from 4 to 8 p.m. Expect fellow transit fans, longtime riders, and plenty of nostalgia. And if you're feeling sentimental, one of the Breda cars (#1534) will live on at the Western Railway Museum in Solano County, preserved for future generations of train lovers."
San Francisco's Breda light rail cars are retiring after nearly 30 years and millions of rides. Final farewell rides run on the J Church line from 11:45 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, with westbound departures from Embarcadero and eastbound departures from Balboa Park at scheduled times throughout the day. Riders can board anywhere along the route and can track the vehicle using Chris Arvin's Bye Bye Breda live tracker. A Breda Farewell Happy Hour takes place at Churchill (198 Church St.) from 4 to 8 p.m. One Breda car (#1534) will be preserved at the Western Railway Museum.
