"The Institute of Contemporary Art San Francisco made a big splash when it came to the city's Financial District last October with an opening night in the newly renovated, gleaming "Cube" filled with preeminent artists, influential gallerists and some of San Francisco's most prominent arts benefactors. All of these people were here to celebrate the group's sleek new home, where it was set to remain - rent-free with free admission - for at least two years."
"That vision was truncated on the morning of Oct. 28 when ICA SF announced that it would be packing up at the end of the year and shifting to a citywide model without a permanent space. "The ICA always knew The Cube was a temporary home - a chance to bring their vision to a new part of the city and test new possibilities," Shaquille Heath, a spokesperson for the group, wrote in an email to SFGATE."
"After ICA SF's current exhibitions by Masako Miki and David Antonio Cruz wrap on Dec. 7 the organization plans to begin setting up new art sites across the city. First up will be a nine-day public lounge during San Francisco Art Week, from Jan. 17 through Jan. 25 at the Transamerica Pyramid Center. Other planned events include an exhibition by artists Dominique Fung and Heidi Lau at Pier 24 in late spring 2026."
The Institute of Contemporary Art San Francisco opened a temporary 'Cube' in the Financial District with rent-free occupancy and free admission intended for at least two years. The organization announced on Oct. 28 that it will vacate the Cube at year-end and adopt a citywide model without a permanent space. The Wharton School of Business signed a lease with Vornado Realty Trust for the 80,000-square-foot building and plans to occupy it within 18 months. Current exhibitions by Masako Miki and David Antonio Cruz run until Dec. 7. ICA SF plans pop-up sites including a Jan. 17–25 public lounge, a Pier 24 exhibition in late spring 2026, and a 2027 Dogpatch Power Station project.
