Defendant testifies in 2021 San Francisco 'Grandpa Vicha' murder case
"I remember someone staring at me. I got to the man and just pushed him. I felt he was judging me, too."
"I didn't want to cry in front of her."
"I was scared the police might arrest me. I was panicking."
"He saw my dad on the ground. His head's all over the blood. You know, when he, no one to help him. Yeah. He intend to assault my father."
Antoine Watson, 19 at the time, became upset after police cited him and his car broke down while Vicha Ratanapakdee was on a morning walk. Watson exited his car, screamed, punched another car, approached Vicha and pushed him after feeling judged. Vicha fell, struck his head, and died in the hospital two days later. Watson acknowledged he did not notice Vicha's age or race, said he "wasn't thinking," and admitted he failed to call 911 because he feared arrest and panicked. Vicha's daughter, Monthanus Ratanapakdee, reacted emotionally and described the attacker as showing no remorse.
