"I'm devastated, quite frankly,"
"A lot of women were very brave in coming forward and sharing their stories. We tried to put a stop to this behavior and feel safe on the streets of San Francisco."
"This sends a very clear message to us,"
"Women, however many years later, are no longer safe."
Bill Gene Hobbs, 37, was seen in Dolores Park and nearby San Francisco neighborhoods earlier this week approaching women and yelling. Hobbs was convicted of stalking, groping, and harassing multiple women across San Francisco over the course of nearly a year. He is required to register as a sex offender, but a search of the state's sex offender registry did not show him registered. A victim who testified in 2023 said she was notified this year that Hobbs was being considered for early release and that details about his release and supervision remain unclear. The victim said the trauma led her to move out of the Bay Area and she expressed concern for other women.
