Bay Area delays hobble BART over maintenance work and equipment woes
"BART passengers were forced to endure significant delays on Sunday due to planned maintenance and an unexpected equipment failure in the East Bay, the rapid transit system said. The delays affected BART trains traveling toward the Berryessa station in San Jose, and toward the system's stations in Richmond and Millbrae, BART said. The delays affected passengers traveling on the Richmond line, also known as the Red Line."
"The delays were caused by planned vegetation management between Downtown Berkeley and El Cerrito Plaza and an equipment problem in North Berkeley, BART stated. The transit system said it was dealing with the difficulties in multiple ways: Trains are using one track between Richmond and MacArthur stations Millbrae and Berryessa riders from Richmond can take a shuttle bus and transfer at MacArthur for a train to San Francisco International Airport and the Berryessa station in San Jose."
Significant delays affected BART Red Line service on September 28, 2025, impacting trains toward Berryessa in San Jose and toward Richmond and Millbrae. Planned vegetation management between Downtown Berkeley and El Cerrito Plaza and an unexpected equipment problem in North Berkeley caused the disruptions. Operations were reduced to one track between Richmond and MacArthur stations. Millbrae and Berryessa riders from Richmond were offered shuttle buses to MacArthur to transfer for trains to San Francisco International Airport and Berryessa. Passengers traveling from Millbrae or Berryessa to Richmond had to transfer at MacArthur to continue to Richmond. BART did not disclose the equipment problem details.
