The National Parks Service has announced that all 13 campgrounds in Yosemite National Park will be open to visitors this summer, marking the first full opening since 2019. This year, an extra 500 campsites will be available to accommodate the park's 4 million anticipated visitors. Challenges related to maintenance and staffing led to previous closures, especially during the pandemic. Officials, including acting superintendent Ray McPadden, express excitement about providing a magical camping experience, though competition for reservations is expected to be high, prompting visitors to act quickly for available spots.
"We're very excited to have these campgrounds open to the public as we enter the busy summer season," said Ray McPadden, acting superintendent.
"Camping in this park is truly a magical experience, and we want to provide the opportunity for as many visitors as possible."
Finding a camping spot at the famed park is notoriously competitive, and they often fill up minutes after reservations open.
Visitors can still access the park using day passes when campgrounds are unavailable.
