ABS Seafood, a San Francisco seafood business established in 1965, is at risk of eviction for owing the city over $444,000 in back rent. The Port of San Francisco filed an unlawful detainer after months of attempts to resolve the debt related to the pandemic's impact on business. Struggles intensified following a $2.7 million embezzlement case involving the company's former CFO, further complicating financial stability. The company was given notice on March 11 to pay an outstanding balance or vacate the premises.
The Port filed for an unlawful detainer to protect its interest in the property only after staff spent many months with ABS Seafood seeking to resolve the growing balance due, which has reached more than $444,000.
According to Young, ABS Seafood stopped paying rent last April due to the loss of business from restaurants that shuttered amid the pandemic.
