"My adrenaline was rushing. I didn't feel, really, much pain at all. It was just more of like a burning sensation. I'm very religious. I'm a Christian. I just didn't know if I was going to go to heaven or hell. I definitely thought about my family ... not knowing if I was going to tell my family I love them again."
"Then, I analyzed the situation and was like, 'OK, this guy doesn't really look like a fan at all,' He was in all black, hoodie on, and he obviously had his gun out immediately. I had a sleeveless shirt on and, like, the hole was very visual, blood coming out everywhere. I had a sense of relief when I saw Joelle, for sure, when she patched me up."
Ricky Pearsall was shot in the chest during an armed robbery near San Francisco's Union Square on Aug. 31, 2024. He initially felt adrenaline and a burning sensation rather than sharp pain and feared whether he would live, reflecting on his faith and family. Pearsall had been returning to his car after hosting an autograph signing when he saw a person approach and at first thought it was a fan. He then realized the attacker wore all black and brandished a gun; a physical altercation preceded the shot. San Francisco Police Sgt. Joelle Harrell arrived, patched him up, and officers arrested a 17-year-old suspect shortly afterward.
