""Cychlorphine could show up in just about any other drug. It can be mixed into a pill. It can be sold as a powder. It can be mixed in with cocaine," said Bob Beris, special agent in Charge of the DEA San Francisco Field Division."
Cychlorphine, a new synthetic opioid, has emerged in San Francisco, linked to an overdose death. It is believed to be more potent than fentanyl and can be mixed into various drugs. The DEA first identified it in 2024. Cychlorphine is difficult to detect with current fentanyl test strips and may be resistant to Narcan, complicating overdose responses. Public health officials are increasing Narcan distribution and community awareness to combat the rising threat of this drug.
