Briefly

The Thomas Sankara Mausoleum, designed by Kérém Architecture, stands in Ouagadougou as a tribute to the assassinated leader and his aides. Its structure, emerging from the earth, uses local materials like laterite stone and clay bricks, grounding the memorial in the history and culture of Burkina Faso. The mausoleum features a circular arrangement of tombs that interacts with sunlight through oculi, marking time and creating a moving experience for visitors. The design invites reflection and remembrance, allowing personal connection to the landscape of loss.
The Thomas Sankara Mausoleum, designed by Kérém Architecture, rises solemnly from the red earth of Ouagadougou with a quiet sense of permanence.
At each hour, daylight passes through a separate oculus above one of the thirteen graves, animating the space with shifting light.
