
A 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck south of Honaunau-Napoopoo, Hawaii at 9:46 p.m. local time. The U.S. Geological Survey placed the epicenter about 3.7 miles east-southeast of the Honaunau-Napoopoo area west of Mauna Loa. Strong shaking was widely reported across the islands. Officials reported no apparent impacts to Mauna Loa or Kilauea. County of Hawaii Mayor Kimo Alameda reported damage to homes and structures and said roadway crews were clearing debris after several rockslides around the South Kona area. Kona Hospital reported minor damage with no interruption of services. About 500 Hawaiian Electric Company customers were without power due to down utility lines and outages in South Kona. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reported no tsunami threats at this time.
