San Francisco's legendary rock 'n' roll hotel rises again
"Last year, it looked like San Francisco's legendary Phoenix Hotel would be coming to an end. After 40 years of rock 'n' roll lore that included visits from everyone from John F. Kennedy Jr. to Sinéad O'Connor, the hotel favored by musicians and celebrities announced that it would be closing its doors in January, after a New Year's Eve blowout. However, it's now become clear that the Phoenix will have a second life, as first reported by Mission Local."
"Michel Suas, owner of B. Patisserie, purchased the lot in 2024 for $9.1 million. For months, it looked like the Phoenix Hotel would not renew its lease, and that this would likely mean the end of the institution. Suas has not responded to requests for comment; however, the Phoenix Hotel confirmed that as of the beginning of February, he has acquired all of the hotel's assets and is expected to continue to operate it as usual."
San Francisco’s Phoenix Hotel, known for decades of rock‑and‑roll and celebrity visits, faced a January closure after announcing plans to shut following a New Year’s Eve event. The property was bought in 2024 by Michel Suas for $9.1 million, prompting months of uncertainty over lease renewal and the venue’s future. As of early February, Suas acquired all hotel assets and operations are expected to continue. The hotel posted that doors remain open and reservations are available while plans for the next chapter are worked out. A new LLC, Phoenix Hotel Tl, was registered on Feb 5 and is linked to local manager Binoy Patel.
