A Nantucket man, Jonathan Jacoby, faces a lawsuit from neighbor Patricia Belford, who claims he illegally cut down 16 of her family's trees to enhance his ocean view. Jacoby, listed his home for nearly $10 million shortly after the incident. The lawsuit seeks over $1.4 million in damages, alleging Jacoby intentionally trespassed to remove trees between their properties. The removed trees included cedar, cherry, and Leyland Cypress, all over 30 feet tall. Jacoby maintains he was not trespassing but merely clearing unwanted trees.
"I wasn't trespassing, I was clearing out her crappy trees," Jacoby told the Boston Globe in a one-line email.
The Defendant's actions were calculated to enhance the ocean view from his own residence at 3 Tautemo Way and were carried out with full knowledge that he lacked any legal right to do so.
