Mansion designed by Coit Tower architect is 2025's priciest SF home sale
"A historic mansion on San Francisco's storied Billionaires' Row has become the city's most expensive home sale of 2025 so far. The home sold in early October for $42 million in an off-market transaction, the San Francisco Business Times first reported. The 12-bedroom, seven-bathroom residence at 2930 Broadway spans 7,320 square feet and was designed in 1928 by Arthur Brown Jr., who was "a top-tier student" of famed architect Bernard R. Maybeck."
"The property was sold by the family trust of Brooks Walker Jr., who died in September 2024 at the age of 96. Described as a "business and civic leader," Walker was a third-generation Californian born in Oakland. He graduated from UC Berkeley and later served as the chairman of SFMOMA from 1984 to 1995. He was also a member of many illustrious and secretive clubs, including both the Pacific Union Club and the Bohemian Club."

The sale is one of several high-value Broadway transactions and is the Bay Area's second-largest home sale of 2025, after an $85 million Woodside estate.
