Century-old SF seafood restaurant's building has been sold for $8M
"The new owner is "a very experienced multifamily investor in SF," Textor told SFGATE via email. "I expect the new owner will do everything possible to keep the existing retail tenants in place, as they have been tenants here for decades," Textor wrote. "Most of the retail tenants have multiple years remaining on their leases, so I don't expect any wholesale changes in the coming months." He added that the building will require some maintenance due to the age of the property."
"Swan Oyster Depot first opened at 1517 Polk Street in 1912, and has retained its old-school flavor into modern day. Anthony Bourdain once called it his "happy zone," and many have waxed poetic over its Sicilian sashimi, crab backs and raw oysters. This summer, though, it received public backlash when someone spotted a President Donald Trump hat in the restaurant. (Co-owner Kevin Sancimino told SFGATE at the time that it had been a gift from a customer and had been removed weeks earlier)."
The Polk and California property that includes Swan Oyster Depot sold for nearly $8 million to a "very experienced multifamily investor in SF." The mixed-use building contains 29 apartments and four additional retail units, including Nara, Ti Piacera Ristorante and wine bar Ora. Most retail tenants hold multiple years on their leases, reducing the likelihood of immediate changes. The building requires maintenance due to its age. Swan Oyster Depot opened at 1517 Polk Street in 1912 and remains known for Sicilian sashimi, crab backs and raw oysters. The restaurant faced backlash this summer after a President Donald Trump hat was spotted and later removed.
