A recent survey indicated that real estate commission rates remain largely unchanged since a settlement was implemented, contradicting expectations of reductions. The average commission rate is currently 5.44%, slightly up from earlier this year, with surveillance showing the majority of agents report their rates have not decreased. Additionally, many agents face client objections regarding commission fees, which are not influenced significantly by new contractual requirements like buyer representation agreements. Other analyses also echo similar findings, showing minimal shifts in commission structures across the industry.
But nearly a year after the terms of the settlement took effect, there's little evidence to suggest commission rates are coming down to a substantial degree.
The findings are in line with other studies on the topic. A HousingWire survey conducted earlier this year found that 58.8% of respondents said their commission rates were about the same.
