"There have been six outages in the Sunset District in December and I have been very frustrated with the process."
"I think that's way not enough for the business, what we lost,"
"I'm glad that today we could facilitate this process, where we're getting them to actually come out and directly talk with merchants, have language access, have paper forms to them. This should have been done much more earlier and not at the prompt of my office."
A merchant walk in San Francisco's Sunset District connected business owners with PG&E representatives to obtain information about the claims process after weeks of power outages. District 4 Supervisor Alan Wong organized the meetings following multiple outages, including a December 20 blackout that affected about 130,000 customers. PG&E offered automatic credits of $2,500 for businesses and $200 for residents, but several merchants reported tens of thousands in losses and plan to file claims beyond the automatic credits. The merchant walk provided language access, paper claim forms, and direct conversations to help businesses pursue compensation. Supervisor Wong demanded greater accountability from PG&E.
