We are making it easier to do business here in the city," Lurie said."
The "Heart of the City" executive directive leverages more than $40 million in private funding to boost downtown. The initiative allocates funds to support small businesses, clean streets, activate public spaces, and convert vacant office space into housing. Goals include transforming downtown into a 24/7 neighborhood and encouraging private investment through streamlined permitting. Targeted areas include Powell Street, Stockton Street, Fourth Street and Embarcadero Plaza. Progress will be tracked with milestones at 100 days, six months and one year. The effort also aligns with broader fiscal planning reflected in a recently signed city budget.
