Mayor Daniel Lurie and incumbent Supervisor Alan Wong canvassed 42nd Avenue in the Sunset on a Saturday ahead of the June 2 election. Residents opened doors when they saw Lurie, including a man who recognized the mayor but not the other candidates and said he opposed ranked-choice voting while still supporting Lurie. Wong, a California National Guard officer, walked quickly up hills, leaving Lurie’s team trailing behind. Wong carried a worn Trader Joe’s bag with flyers and looked into second-floor windows, explaining that Sunset residents often hesitate to step out and chat.
