Nancy Pelosi endorses Connie Chan for Congress
"“I have been watching this race closely with all of you - and I believe one candidate stands above the rest,” Pelosi says in an endorsement video that will appear Tuesday morning. Reporters received a copy Monday afternoon. “Connie Chan is the leader best prepared to carry forward the fight for San Francisco in the Congress of the United States.”"
"Pelosi's pick was much-anticipated. Chan is in a tight race and facing off against state Sen. Scott Wiener, who is almost guaranteed to come in the No. 1 slot in the June 2 primary and has the name recognition and money to cruise to a victory in November, and Saikat Chakrabarti, the upstart progressive whose personal coffers - he is worth more than $100 million and has been spending handsomely on his campaign - make him a dangerous rival to both Chan and Wiener."
"But more so for Chan, who must beat Chakrabarti for the No. 2 slot in June. The two sides are neck and neck, according to recent polls, and their followers are often at each other's throats. The imprimatur of San Francisco's 39-year congresswoman, Chan's campaign hopes, will turn the tides."
"“With two decades of service to our city and our state, Connie has delivered for San Francisco again and again - protecting access to healthcare, investing in public education, and fighting for good-paying jobs that keep families in the city they love,” Pelosi says in the video."
Nancy Pelosi endorsed Connie Chan for San Francisco’s next House representative, saying Chan is the leader best prepared to carry forward the fight for the city in Congress. The endorsement video is set to appear Tuesday morning. Chan is in a tight race for the June 2 primary against state Sen. Scott Wiener, who has strong name recognition and funding, and against Saikat Chakrabarti, a well-funded progressive with over $100 million. Chan must secure the No. 2 slot by beating Chakrabarti, with polls showing the two sides neck and neck and supporters frequently clashing. Pelosi cited Chan’s two decades of service and her record on healthcare access, public education investment, and good-paying jobs.
