Lurie, in Sunset 'listening mode,' says he'll tap a supe for the long haul
"If we don't have the opportunity to [say] what our concerns are, the next person won't know,"
"We want to solve these issues together, not just pick one person who can bypass opinions and vote for certain things."
"if we pick someone, we have to make sure they go into the next four years as the supervisor and do a good job."
Mayor Daniel Lurie is conducting a listening tour in the Sunset while choosing a replacement for recalled District 4 Supervisor Joel Engardio. Sunset residents recalled Engardio 63-37 and voiced strong concern about a mayoral plan to upzone much of the Westside, including their neighborhood. Increasing height and density has met resistance in neighborhoods that historically produced fewer new housing units. Community leaders insist on being heard before an appointment and fear a caretaker appointee who might vote against constituent preferences. Lurie indicated a preference for an appointee who intends to run for the next term, and his staff met with recall leaders and merchants.
