In September 2024, three Irish citizens arrived in Bolivia, posing as Hindu monks to promote environmental conservation after extensive wildfires. They offered free yoga therapy and gathered support from locals while secretly signing lease agreements for vast land areas under the guise of a fictitious nation, Kailasa. As more individuals joined them, community leaders expressed anger over being misled about the motives behind their offers of health support. Ultimately, the group faced deportation for their actions, which left a sour relationship between them and the indigenous communities.
The community is upset because their goodwill was taken advantage of. They had been offered medicines and health support, but at no point were they informed about leasing or donating their land.
Members of the religious sect, who were detained and later deported from Bolivia on March 24, presented themselves as ambassadors of Kailasa, the world's first sovereign Hindu nation.
