San Francisco supervisors approved a locally required list of commonly stolen goods that police may use to cite suspected illegal street vendors. State legislators approved SB 276 in September, amending 2018 restrictions and restoring police authority to enforce specified street vending violations in San Francisco. Police may cite vendors selling listed items and may arrest individuals after three offenses. The list contains about 100 items in 11 categories based on Public Works recovery data from 2023 through September. Permitted vendors and prepared-food sellers are exempt. Public Works personnel will remain involved in enforcement operations.
