Truman Scholarship Foundation, an independent agency established in 1975. Republican lawmakers contend the foundation, designed to support 50 high-achieving undergraduates annually pursuing public service careers, has become biased toward Democratic applicants despite bipartisan board oversight. The proposed legislation would limit interview panels to no more than 50% from one political party, establish a conduct code, and require U.S. citizenship for eligibility. Democrats opposed the bill, questioning the alleged bias and warning it would allow presidential control over scholarship selection.
