California lawmakers have rallied against President Trump's threats to impose fines on the state regarding trans student athletes. Representative Ro Khanna stated that they cannot yield to intimidation and must be prepared to challenge these actions in court, which he views as government overreach. The situation escalated after a trans high school athlete won events at a statewide competition, prompting Trump to declare that fines would be enforced. Lawmakers advocate for California’s long-standing support of the LGBTQ+ community, emphasizing the importance of protecting trans youth amid political tensions.
We can't bend the knee. You have to take it to court if we need to and make sure that we don't get intimidated. This is part of a government overreach.
California should always be a state that supports all people; we have a long history of supporting the LGBTQ+ community. Attacking trans youth is not the way to go.
