Milpitas High School secured a remarkable 55-44 upset victory over Bellarmine, a prominent private school, marking a major milestone for public schools in the Central Coast Section (CCS) Open Division. Coach Champ Wrencher and his team had meticulously prepared for this match, believing that victory was possible despite historical setbacks in this division. Milpitas, with key contributions from players like Lamont Davis, Isaac Sisay, and standout sophomore Pranav Krishnan, overcame an early deficit with a powerful third-quarter run, demonstrating resilience and strong teamwork to finish the game with a 10-point lead.
public schools in the Central Coast Section Open Division have had an abysmal historical track record going up against the private school powers that have ruled CCS basketball for so many years.
We could be seen as underdogs, but we were preparing, what if. We watched Bellarmine play several times. We wanted to be here, wanted the opportunity.
Our defense was key. We knew our offense would come. We believe in ourselves. It’s about trust in each other and pride in our game.
Krishnan is the best sophomore in this area in my opinion. He’s an X factor coming off the bench as a sixth man.
