A man fell into the water in Liscannor, County Clare, and was recovered quickly by local fishermen but still needed medical evacuation. Valentia Coast Guard was alerted by the National Ambulance Service, and the Doolin Coast Guard unit and the Shannon-based Rescue 115 helicopter were tasked to the location. The casualty was airlifted to University Hospital Galway. Earlier in the week, a surfer got into difficulty at Lahinch Beach during very hot weather. Valentia’s Marine Rescue Co-ordination Sub-Centre received the alert, and Rescue 115 and the Doolin Coast Guard unit were dispatched along with the National Ambulance Service. The woman was treated at the scene and then airlifted to University Hospital Galway.
