The celebration that cost a California girl her state track title
Briefly

Clara Adams, a sophomore at North Salinas High, faced disqualification after winning the 400 meters at the state track championships. Celebrating her victory by spraying her shoes with a fire extinguisher foam, she was deemed to have committed unsportsmanlike conduct by officials and subsequently stripped of her title. This ruling sparked controversy, as her father argued it was racially motivated, and the protest was ignored. Additionally, her disqualification also prevented her from competing in the 200 meters, where she was a favorite for a top position, leaving her shocked and disappointed.
"I don't know what's going through my mind right now," Clara Adams said later that night. "I'm disappointed and I feel robbed. I am in shock."
"I have video of it," said David Adams, who is also his daughter's sprint coach. "She was on the other side of the wall. I told her to step off the track."
