Teen talent shines as Sligo Community Games trio battle bravely at national handball finals in Longford
The provincial 60x30 season started with singles quarter-final matches leading into semi-finals across most grades. Darragh Murphy of Sligo faced Moycullen’s David Donoghue in Junior B singles, losing 2-0 for the second time in three days. Donoghue is positioned as a strong contender to add a 60x30 provincial title to a 40x20 title won earlier. In Longford, Sligo Community Games were represented by Bobby Cavanagh, Ciaran Corr, and Lorcan Foody. Bobby overcame early trouble to win 21-18 after trailing 17-7, then edged a tight 18-17 win, before narrowly losing 15-12. Ciaran won his opening game 21-9 and later played a close semi-final against Senan Johnson.
"Bobby's second match saw him take on Claremorris young star Jacob Jawoski. In another massive battle Bobby once again showed incredible grit to edge out a thrilling 18-17 win. In his final game Bobby came up against Leitrim player Maxim Gilmartin but just fell short, losing out 15-12. Bobby can be extremely proud of his performances, especially considering he is 13 competing in the U16 grade."
