Suspect in Santana Row Valentine's Day murder case attacks rival gang member in juvenile hall
Briefly

Since the arrests of teenage boys involved in the Valentine's Day stabbing of David Gutierrez, serious incidents have occurred in juvenile detention and during supervised release. A judge has set a trial date for the accused, but the victim's family is dissatisfied with the juvenile justice system, as they believe it does not provide adequate consequences for the offenses committed. Gutierrez's family insists he was a victim of gang violence despite the accused coming from gang affiliations. The family protests outside the court, demanding justice for their loss.
"It's just insane that they're in custody and these are the things that are happening," Diana Gutierrez, David's aunt, said Thursday.
"Both police and David's family say the teenager had no gang involvement and instead, after being dropped off at San Jose's upscale shopping center by his mom, was simply celebrating the holiday and out for a special date night with his girlfriend."
"A trial date has not yet been set in that murder case, but the family is calling for more accountability from the juvenile justice system."
"A fifth suspect, who is 18, has been charged with felony assault in adult court, emphasizing the serious nature of the offenses connected to this case."
